If we were having coffee right now…

If we were having coffee right now… I’d probably order an Earl Grey tea, or a hot chocolate, since I don’t drink coffee. I never really liked the taste of it. I’ve had only ever had one cup of coffee, a cappuccino, that I actually liked, when I was in Italy. Each one I’ve tasted since was never really the same, so I never became a coffee lover. I call myself lucky to have met and married a fellow non-coffee drinker (many people are very surprised at our non-coffee drinking status).

If we were having coffee right now… I would tell you how much I’m enjoying blogging.  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed writing, even though I don’t think I’m very good at it. It’s great having something else to think about other that the usual day to day stuff. I’m looking forward to dedicating my time on subjects I’m passionate about.

If we were having coffee right now…  I would tell you how tired I’ve been. I find I am up every night til midnight typing away articles for the blog. I find it’s the best time to do the assignments for the courses (Blogging 101 and Writing 101), and it gives me the whole day to think about them.  They are great courses and I am learning a lot. I will aim to start blogging earlier each night though, the continuous late nights are killing me.

If we were having coffee right now… I would tell you that I think I’ve decided to go ahead with a graphic design course next year. I want to start a new career in a creative field and have been deciding between graphic design and fashion. I keep changing my mind though, so ask me again next week…

If we were having coffee right now… I would tell you that I am trying to learn how to use my husband’s DSLR camera to get the creative juices flowing. It’s mainly the specific functions of the camera that I want to learn about, so I’ve borrowed a book from the library and am trying to learn about it this way. I find it hard enough being able to read anything nowadays let alone a whole course on photography! But I’m getting through it slowly. There’s a lot of technical information though that, when reading it late at night, kind of goes over my head.  I’ll go back to the details later… Meanwhile, I did a few test shots on the weekend (see one below) and think I’ve got a fair way to go!

Writing 101, Day 10: Update your readers over a cup of coffee

No matter what type of blog you have, it’s sometimes necessary to post updates: from project news to personal messages about what’s going on in your life. One creative approach to an update post is a “virtual coffee date,” as seen on Kate Goes Globalwhich is like catching up with an old friend over a cup of coffee.

In her post, Kate begins each paragraph with If we were having coffee right now… and then adds a detail. You can share any details you’d like and include as many as you want, as long as you begin each with If we were having coffee right now… (or a variation of this phrase, as seen on Girl with the Red Hair).

It’s a simple idea, but offers a bit more structure to your post — and is a lot more fun. So today, write an update post in the form of a virtual coffee date.

If this post isn’t fitting for your blog, or just not your style, here’s your alternative: use a coffee shop as your inspiration.

  • Set your poem or short story in a cafe.
  • Go to your neighborhood spot with your laptop or notebook and free-write for 20 minutes, prompted by what you observe.
  • Love or hate coffee? Tell us why.

    1. Deciding on which camera to buy is difficult, there are so many out there and so many opinions. If I had more time I probably would’ve done a photography class. I hope you find a way to better photos soon!
