My blog writing usually starts at about 10pm. The day’s duties are out of the way and I have the freedom to think clearly. I find I write better in the evening, as every attempt so far this last week (since starting this blog and writing challenge) in the day time has resulted in procrastination and doing chores instead. Throughout the day, while either at work or playing with my daughter, blog ideas go through my mind. I scribble these on little pieces of paper and put them into my handbag. I should probably give those note taking apps a go and keep my notes in my phone instead. Those bits of paper get lost so easily…
When blogging, I sit on my bed, leaning against the wall with my laptop on my lap. My earphones are in and I listen to the iTunes Jazz radio station to drown out the ambient noise (husband’s snoring). All I need to blog is my laptop, earphones and those little pieces of paper with my notes.
Ideally I should be on a desk for ergonomic’s sake. I’m not sure if I would be as relaxed though, it’s not as comfy as my bed! Classical or chill music inspires me usually, but in the evening I find it’s not enough to drown out sounds in my surroundings… I would like to try blogging in a cafe, but would feel a little pressured maybe? I very rarely get time to get away alone as a mum, so if I did, I would have to make the most of it. I will try it soon though…
In my dreams, I would blog, JoyLovesParis style, by the fountain at Le Jardin des Tuileries, at a Parisian Café (in between people watching), or on a terrace of a tiny Parisian apartment, surrounded by black wrought iron fencing.
Maybe next time I’m in Paris…
The last part of my assignment is a poll about what I should write about. Please take part, comment below, or contact me to make a suggestion. Thank you!
Writing 101: Day 6
The space to write
Where do you write? Do you prefer blogging on your laptop in a coffee shop? Are you productive in a quiet room, door closed, away from civilization? Today, describe the space where you write. Or, if you don’t have a dedicated place, what is your ideal setting? Consider these questions to shape your post:
- What are your writing habits?
- What equipment or supplies do you use to write?
- What do you need and want in a physical space?
In the course, we’ll occasionally ask you to do a task in preparation for a future post. Today, insert a poll at the end of this post to gather ideas on what to write. (If you prefer not to add a poll to today’s post, an alternative is publishing a new page with a contact form, which you can use for this purpose.)
